We all know the song everyone will be singing this week! You know, the one about Mr. Peter Cottontail that goes: “Hoppin’ down the bunny trail, Hippity, hoppity, Easter’s on its way.”
Good Friday is at the end of the week and easter weekend is creeping up on us oh-so-quickly!
We here at CFC love holidays so much because it means family time and traditions. This is especially true for Easter. For a lot of people, being at the beginning of spring, this holiday symbolizes new birth, togetherness, and family connections.
We have created a list of our top 5 family activities to do this easter with your kids!
Decorating Easter Eggs
1. It goes without saying that decorating easter eggs is an amazing way to spend a few hours of quality family time with your kids. It allows them to exercise their creative minds. You get to watch their creativity flow and see their masterpieces in the end. But sometimes dyes in the store-bought kits can irritate your child’s skin or have a bad smell to them. We found a great resource for creating a DIY dye recipe to create your own natural egg dyes from food found in your kitchen! Check it out here.
Egg Rolling Contest
2. But what do you do after the egg decorating? Eat the stained eggs? (not a problem if you use your own DYI natural dye!) We have a better idea! Go for an egg roll – no not the kind you get at your fav Chinese restaurant! The idea is to boil some eggs, decorate them and then head outside and find a nice hill. Everyone takes a turn rolling their eggs down the hill and the egg that rolls the farthest wins! We love this idea for so many reasons. It gets the kids out of the house, teaches them about gravity, AND you get out of the house for a few hours.
Arts and Crafts
3. Finger painting! Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned fingerpainting day? We sure do! Why not use your little ones hands to create art this holiday season? Here are a few examples of how hands can turn into bunnies!
Easter Baking
4. Easter baking is a great way to introduce your child to the kitchen and teach them how to safely use tools found there. Not to mention baking is always a great family activity with amazing treats at the end! Here are some great festive baking ideas and recipes for you to try with your kids this easter!
Easter Egg Hunt
5. Easter Egg Hunt! Easter Egg Hunts are so much fun for kids of all ages. From infants to teenagers, this activity is for everyone! Have fun this Easter by hiding chocolate eggs, candy, or small gifts around the house for the kids to find! Help your baby find their surprises by walking them around the house and letting them pick up anything new they may see. For a change this year try having the hunt outside in a scavenger hunt theme! The possibilities are really endless with the classic Easter tradition!
We know that so many of you reading this would not be able to celebrate easter with your children without the help of our amazing surrogates. Those selfless women who work with CFC are truly wonderful and make things like family holiday traditions possible. For that we are eternally grateful and thankful!
We hope everyone has a safe and hoppy easter!
