We are always excited to have people reach out to us, who are curious about surrogacy! Over the past 17 years, here’s what I’ve learned about when it’s right when it’s wrong, and when it’s a yes, maybe, or in a while…

Here are the questions that I suggest asking yourself.

  • Have I completed having my family?  If not, am I at least done for now, and understand the risks of pregnancy?
  • Am I willing to quit smoking (If you smoke)
  • What are my Termination values if a medical abnormality arises (this will help find the right Intended parents for you)
  • Am I willing to undergo an in-depth medical exam, psychological assessment
  • If a complication arises, and bed rest is necessary, could you take time off work?

Our intake team is available to help you answer the above questions and to provide more context.  It’s important to us that you have all of the information to make the most informed decision possible.  The surrogacy journey is beautiful and so exciting to be a part of.  While it’s exciting, it’s also important to ensure that the timing is right.

Here’s when I suggest waiting

  • Your partner isn’t on board, and you feel like you are convincing them
  • If a complication arises, and bed rest is necessary, could you take time off work?
  • You are on medication that requires weaning off, before becoming pregnant

If you’re finding some of these statements sound like you, now may not be the best time to start your surrogacy journey. We understand all of the things life can throw in our paths. So feel free to reach out to us anytime and talk with our team further to decide if surrogacy is the right fit for you.

It’s important to have a team that will be able to coach you on how to manage the expense reimbursement. In Canada, it is an altruistic method. But that does not mean free and that does not mean IPs don’t need to cover your expenses.
