Meet Alex & Eric

We first met online back in December 2011, which feels like a lifetime ago now. From the start, we just clicked. Things moved pretty quickly—within a few months, we’d moved in together. A few years later, we bought our first house, and soon after brought home two dogs who instantly became part of our little family. On new year’s eve in 2014, Eric proposed at a quiet spot on the beach in Waikiki while the fireworks went off. A couple years later, in 2016, we got married in a small, intimate ceremony in Maui surrounded by our immediate families. It was such a special moment, and Hawaii is still a special place for us.
Since then, we have moved again, and our family has grown to include a third dog (and we’ve loved every minute of spoiling them). Still, in recent years, we’ve started to feel like something’s missing. We both knew we wanted kids in the future, but we didn’t have a real defined timeline for ourselves. We wanted to wait until we felt ready – being a parent is a daunting responsibility, and we didn’t want to rush things. As more of our friends and family have started having children, that quiet desire to grow our own family has become louder and louder.
In 2023, we traveled to Australia to visit Alex’s brother and his family and finally got to meet their two little ones who were born during the pandemic. Spending that time with them (playing, laughing, just seeing the world through their eyes) really sealed it for us. Being “Uncle Alex” and “Uncle Eric” in person was such a joy, and it made us even more certain that we’re ready to become parents.
Since then, we’ve slowly started putting together a nursery, and it already holds some special pieces, like a tiny wooden rocking chair that belonged to Alex’s grandma when she was a little girl in rural Alberta in the 1930s. Both of our families are beyond excited about the idea of a child joining our lives, and we’re dreaming of the day when our home is filled with the energy and curiosity of little ones. We’ve recently found out that Eric’s brother and his wife are expecting a little boy later this year! It would be so wonderful to have some similarly aged cousins living just a few minutes away from each other.
We both love to garden and can’t wait to share that joy. There’s something magical about watching things grow with just a little dirt, sunshine, and water. Eric has a small jungle growing inside, and we enjoy keeping our outdoor garden in the summer. Our backyard is always buzzing with life: birds, squirrels, chipmunks, you name it. We’re fortunate to live close to the river valley in Edmonton, and we constantly find new trails and fantastic future fort building locations… we’re looking forward to seeing all of it through a child’s eyes!
We have so many favorite books, movies, shows, and games that we’re excited to share… Disney movies (Aladdin, The Lion King, and 101 Dalmatians were some favs growing up), Pixar (really, all of them), Pokémon, board games, books (The Hobbit, Harry Potter, Dr. Seuss, nursery rhymes), not to mention active games and sports outside. We have a wonderful playground and field half a block away that is always buzzing with activity from neighbourhood kids.
Finally, we are shy and reserved people, but we will open up more as we get past the immediate introduction stage. Don’t worry if we’re quiet, we’re truly looking forward to the opportunity to get to know you!
