Hello!
Our names are David and Alon, and we write to you from Ottawa, Ontario. We are a relatively young(ish) millennial couple going through our family-building journey. We are so grateful that you have landed on this page and are considering helping us bring our dream family to life.
We have always known that we wanted to be parents, and since first meeting in 2021, felt we wanted to become fathers together. As a gay couple, it is not always easy to imagine how one would even go about having children. But while we are figuring out that piece, we have been dads to our wonderfully sassy 2-year-old Golden Retriever (Golda) and cuddly 6-year-old tabby cat (Milos). According to their unbiased reviews, we have been providing them with a loving, warm, and fun-loving home.
The family-building process through surrogacy is complicated, however, we are thankful and proud that Canada recognizes our marriage and offers us this pathway. It is important for both of us to have a biological connection to our children, especially since we come from small and widespread families. Having our own kids (ideally 3-4, dare we say!) will bring so much joy to our lives and to those we cherish.
Whether emotionally, logistically, or medically, this process comes with uncertainties for all parties involved. To that end, we hope to match with a surrogate who leads with kindness and empathy – essential ingredients that we promise to bring to the table as well. We care deeply about open communication, respect, trust, and curiosity. We hope to have regular calls and check-ins with our surrogate, and hope they feel comfortable sharing any updates they might have (big or small). We hope to lean on our surrogate’s expertise and support throughout the journey, and are open to seeing how our relationship evolves in the years that follow. Our surrogate will play an incredible and central role in our family’s story, for which we will be forever grateful.
A bit more about us. Although neither of us grew up in Ottawa, this is the city that brought our lives’ paths together and has now become the place we call home. That said, the distance from our families (Calgary for David, Toronto for Alon) and friends can at times be challenging; nonetheless, we do our best to keep a close connection. We also have an amazing community of friends in Ottawa, many of whom we consider our chosen family. We have been talking everyone’s ears off about our excitement to become dads, and they are all eagerly awaiting their opportunities to be grandparents, aunts, uncles, guncles, and the rest.
Some traditions that we would like to share with our future kiddos are spending quality time outdoors, be it hiking, biking, or a ski trip. We look forward to family breakfasts (feat. blueberry pancakes), movie nights with tons of snacks, or going to the nearby dog park to meet up with friends from the neighbourhood. We look forward to celebratory gatherings and family holidays (our mothers make some excellent soups), as well as the many ‘little moments’ of life as a
parent (bedtime stories, bath time, teaching the multiplication tables). We know that parenting is hard work, and have seen this first-hand both personally and professionally. But it also feels like one of life’s best and most important jobs.
Our biggest milestones so far in this journey include partnering with an incredible egg donor (open/known donation via a Canadian agency) and great medical and legal teams. We have 10 frozen PGT-tested embryos, so we are ready and excited to get started.
If you got this far into reading our story, we just wanted to say: thank you. Should you be interested in working with us, we would be honoured to meet you, learn more about you, answer any of your questions, and hopefully partner with you in this unique and beautiful adventure.
From Ottawa with gratitude,
David & Alon
