Meet Didi & John

Nice to meet you! We are John and Didi, a nature-loving married couple from the Netherlands. We are absolutely smitten with our teenage daughter Indra. John is not Indra’s biological father, but came into her life when she was 7 years old and the two have been inseparable ever since. As the song by Elvie Shane (My Girl) says: ‘She ain’t my blood, but she’s my girl’.

A few years after Didi’s pregnancy, she fell ill. In hospital, she was diagnosed with an infection of the liver and given the appropriate medication. After two years, her condition only got worse, and it became apparent that she had been misdiagnosed and that her liver had been severely damaged by the medication. When we started thinking about children, it became clear that a normal pregnancy was not an option for us. Due to the liver damage, pregnancy is very risky, even deathly. After talking to the physician, we decided to continue our journey through surrogacy. We raise Indra with a strong love for the Anthroposophical way of life. This means living with the cycle of nature (and the associated seasonal celebrations and traditions), eating with the seasons and attending a Waldorf school.

We enjoy spending time in nature, in our vegetable garden, and we love cooking for family and friends. Although connecting with people is more important to us than material things, our family has a long tradition of preserving items of sentimental value. We cherish items that have been passed down through four generations. For example, we have a crocheted nativity scene made by Didi’s great-grandmother, we own the family cradle bought for Didi’s mum in the fifties, and Indra is the fourth generation to use the sewing machine from 1966. It has been passed down from mother to daughter.

Daily, we eat with the cutlery that Didi’s grandparents received as a wedding gift. We enjoy honouring these items and continuing this tradition. Didi enjoys knitting and making herbal oils. John likes to make toys out of wood and renovates the house with second-hand materials. Indra enjoys sewing, drawing, and her weekly martial arts class. All three of us enjoy reading. We appreciate every beautiful moment that comes our way.

We always look on the bright side of life. We want to offer our baby the same. A warm and loving

home. We believe that a child chooses his/her own parents looking down from a cloud. We think our child will not only choose us, but also choose you as a surrogate, to help him/her take the path down to earth. This is why we think we will always be connected.
