Meet Emmanuel & Christopher

We are Christopher and Emmanuel, a married couple living in the charming town of Cossonay in the Swiss countryside near Lake Geneva. We can’t wait to start our family, hopefully with your help!
Here’s a bit about us:
Christopher grew up in California and attended university in San Francisco, moving to Switzerland in 2012. He works in the legal field and actively volunteers for our local LGBTQ+ association.
Emmanuel grew up in a small village in the Swiss Alps, spending his winters skiing and his summers in his family’s alpine cabin. He works as a food technology engineer.
We literally bumped into each other one night in a bar in San Francisco in 2010, and danced the rest of the night away. We started dating right away and, before we knew it, we had fallen in love. Emmanuel was in the US on a student visa and eventually had to return home. We did everything that we could to stay together, which eventually led to Chris moving to Switzerland and us getting married in each of our home countries as laws evolved.
We enjoy spending weekends in the Alps, hiking or snowshoeing depending on the season, reading, and being out in nature. We also like traveling, gardening, playing with our cat, cooking our favorite meals together, and getting together with our friends and families. Spending lots of time with our niece, nephew and all of our friends’ kids has shown us that we would be awesome, playful dads.
Both of us always wanted to have a family with kids; however, growing up gay, we never believed having children would be possible. As the laws have now evolved in both of our home countries, we’re super excited that we can now legally have a child and start the family we always dreamed of having!
Our child will grow up in a bilingual (French and English) environment, learning about our respective cultures and discovering each of our interests that we hope to share with them. Emmanuel is the more adventurous out of the two of us and is eager to teach our child how to ski, while Chris is more creative and is excited to share his passion for movies, music and crafts. We’re looking forward to sharing all of our hobbies with our child, and helping them to discover the world around us.
Currently, we have embryos frozen at the Create Fertility clinic, and we can’t wait to find the perfect surrogate to participate in the next steps of our journey and to become an integral part of our family. Ideally, we would love to have frequent communication, with regular check-ins and support for each other.
We are really looking forward to meeting you and to taking these next steps together!

Letter to baby

Dear future Baby,
We are Christopher and Emmanuel, but hopefully soon, you will call us Daddy Chris and Papa Manu.
At the moment, you’re still hiding in a tiny embryo chillin in a freezer, but don’t worry, that won’t last long. Soon, an incredible woman is going to come into your daddies’ lives, and she will carry you and help you to grow into a beautiful baby. We will all be there with you along the way, through phone calls and visits with our surrogate, and when you’re ready to make your big entrance, we’ll be there, waiting to hold you in our arms!
Early on we will make a big voyage across the globe to Switzerland, where your daddies live and where you will grow up, in the land of cheese and chocolate, nestled in the Alps. Our home is in the green, hilly countryside near Lake Geneva, with a lush forest just a few minutes walk away, and views over the mountains where our extended family lives.
Your Daddy Chris is very creative, he will have lots of craft projects to work on with you, painting and drawing activities to stimulate your imagination. He will love sharing his recipes with you and for you to try all the flavors of the world. He can’t wait to build sand castles with you, by the lakes of Switzerland and on the beaches of his native California.
Your Papa Manu is adventurous, he will run around with you, teach you to ski, and lead us on hikes through the Alps. He is an awesome cook and bakes the best bread in Switzerland. He’s also patient and really smart, so he will be your go-to daddy for homework help one day! He loves to build things, and is looking forward to building a crib for you and preparing your bedroom, and is excited to assemble legos with you when you’re a bit older.
Your dads certainly weren’t alone on this journey, so many wonderful people have helped us along the way. We’ve worked together with fantastic teams at an agency, with doctors and lawyers, and met another incredible woman who helped us by donating her eggs to help make our dream of having a child a reality.
Although we don’t yet know who our awesome surrogate is going to be, we do know that she is reading this letter and will make an incredible and generous decision to help create our little family! She will be so amazed to see the incredible little human being you are going to grow into with us by your side!
While we can’t wait to welcome you into our little family, we aren’t the only ones excited for you to be here! You already have two cousins in Switzerland who can’t wait to meet you and to get to play with you, grandparents and an aunt and uncle who are all eager for you to arrive.
And during vacations or holidays, we will all go together to California, where you have two more aunties and a grandfather who are all so very excited about you too!
We know that your arrival will be just the beginning of a new and amazing journey as a family.
We promise you that we are going to do our absolute best to be there for you always, to support you through all of life’s great moments, from your first words to your first steps, to your first day of school, and all the rest!
Your daddies absolutely cannot wait for you to be here, we love you already!
