Hello! We are Owen, Joey, and Oliver, and we would love for you to consider us for a sibling journey. When we dreamed of being parents, we always wanted to have a second child. Oliver longs to be a big brother. He seems to have his heart set on a little sister, as he keeps asking us for one.

The best way to describe us as a couple, is that we’re an example of why opposites attract. Extrovert vs Introvert. Indoorsy vs Outdoorsy. Dog person vs Cat person. Techie vs Luddite. The list goes on. We round off each other’s rough edges, complement each other’s strengths, and fill in missing pieces. We must be doing something right, since, at the time of writing, we have been together for almost sixteen years. Oliver having been a part of our lives for the last six years. Rounding out our family are two Siamese cats, Ted and Arnold, and a German shepherd mix, Rusty.

Oliver is a very happy, outgoing, little boy. Once he gets past his initial shyness, you’ll find that he is quite talkative and very much a daredevil. Ever the social butterfly, he really enjoys playing with his friends at school, and especially loves spending time with his cousins and grandmothers. He’s very active, always running and climbing. Recently he started learning how to play soccer. He loves to perform in front of a crowd, and has some impressive dance moves (and we have no idea where they come from). One of his favourite things to do is visit theme parks and ride the roller coasters; something he has in common with “Daddy” (Joey).

Currently, we all live in Hamilton, Ontario. Owen is originally from the UK, having lived much of his life in and around London, and moved to Canada in 2009. Joey is from Montreal, though he’s also lived in Windsor and in North Bay. Owen worked in Administration at McMaster University and Joey was a Chemistry Professor at Nipissing University. After Oliver was born, we decided to quit our jobs and become stay at home parents. A decision neither of us regrets! It has been wonderful to be able to spend so much time with Oliver, and being fully present for each milestone as he grows up. We are eager to repeat this experience with our second child.

We enjoy travel and try to take trips, near or far, as often possible. As soon as he was old enough, we have shared this with Oliver. We have taken him to many more places than either of us had been to at his age. From Nova Scotia to British Columbia; from the Caribbean to Alaska; Norway, Greece, Israel, Colombia, Turkey, Mexico; our hope is that these travels and experiences will have broadened his mind to all the possibilities out there. It would be amazing to take our second child on similar adventures.

There are no words to express how grateful we are to Oliver’s surrogate. She expertly led us through that journey. She told us how she wanted to approach each step, and explained whatever she required from us. Having first met online, we got along with each other straight away. We first built an online, and then an in-person friendship, which has continued since Oliver was born. We try to see each other a few times each year. She had always intended to be a surrogate again, and had already told us she wanted to do the sibling journey with us. Unfortunately, in the interests of her long term health, we discovered recently that this was no longer possible.

We hope to have a similar relationship with you, as we would love to strike up a lifelong friendship. We will be guided by your needs and will do our best to support you throughout this. So that you know, we have nine embryos waiting at Create in Toronto, and our consultant there is Dr. Librach.

We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you.

Thank you.

Owen, Joey, and Oliver.

Letter to future surrogate
***************************************************

Please allow us to extend our gratitude to you, for reading our profile and considering us. We know that there are many intended parents to consider, and just for taking the time to look at us, we wanted to say “thank you”. Even if we are not the people you ultimately choose to help, know that we have nothing but the upmost respect and admiration for your generosity. What you are doing, helping others build their family, is possibly the best gift anyone could receive. And for this, you should be commended.

As you are undoubtedly aware, we have been the recipients of this gift once already. Oliver has been the best thing to happen to us. We have grown in ways we never imagined possible; we became more empathetic, more patient, and all in all, more caring. There are no words to express our thanks and appreciation we have for Oliver’s surrogate. Not just for the gift of Oliver, but for her guidance through the whole process, and for her friendship since then. Early on she had told us that she wanted to take part in a sibling journey with us, however, because of health reasons, this ended up not being possible. While disappointed, we hold no ill-feelings whatsoever. How could we, having already been given such a precious gift? Still, we have not given up our dream of having a second child.

So here we are, about to embark on this sibling journey, and you considering helping us. We want you to know that we intend to follow your lead, and support your needs in whatever way you feel comfortable with. We understand that you will be doing the hardest part of this journey, and we want to be by your side in whatever way you feel is right for you. It is a big decision, and a heavy toll, and we understand that your needs are paramount. We want you to be comfortable communicating freely with us, as we both encourage open discussions about what your ideas are for this process. In short, we want to make sure that going on this surrogate journey with us is a rewarding experience for you.

Once again, we want to thank you for your time, your consideration, and most of all, your generosity. It takes a very rare and special person to offer of themselves in this way, and we are deeply touched that you are considering helping us grow our family.

Thank you again,

Owen, Joey, and Oliver.
