Dear Surrogate,

We are Benoît and Julien and we are in a relationship since April 2019. We live in Beloeil, a small town located on the South Shore of Montreal in Quebec (30-40 minutes from Montreal). We bought our first five bedroom-house together last June in a beautiful, quiet, family-oriented neighborhood near parks, daycares and schools with the goal of starting our family there. We got married on September 9, 2023.

Benoît, 34 years old, has been working for the federal government for more than 10 years and is a director in human resources. Julien, 34 years old, is an urban planner for a city in the Montérégie region. We have a little dog named Milie, a 6 year old yorkie that we love unconditionally. She takes up a lot of space in our lives, but we are sure she would be happy to share all the attention she is currently receiving with a new member of the family. We both speak French and English and want our child to be bilingual.

We always had the desire to become dads since we were children and we were both very clear about this when we met. We are both well surrounded, stable (mentally and financially), responsible and ready to start this beautiful life project. We are ready to spend our nights up, change diapers, tell stories, sing kid’s songs, do multiple loads of laundry, take walks and do various activities as a family.

A typical Friday night for us is either spending quiet time at home and cooking a new recipe and then watching a movie or visiting or entertaining friends and family for an evening of card games and board games. We enjoy spending time with our 4 months old nephew. We also sometimes go into town for a drink, a walk, shopping or to see a concert. During our vacations, we like to take different trips, whether it is to an all-inclusive hotel by the beach or to learn more about the culture and history of another country. We are already picturing ourselves to travel with our child when possible and to go to Disney World when he or she is older. We see ourselves spending our weekends doing all sorts of activities to stimulate our child, whether it be going to play outside, to the museums, children’s arcades, swimming lessons, visiting family, cooking and allowing them to discover their own passions.

We found a wonderful woman who matched our physical traits and had similar values to ours who agreed to donate her eggs. In this regard, we have chosen to work with the CReATe fertility clinic located in Toronto and we had our embryos created in August 2023. We have opted for a guaranteed package of two births (1 from each father) with them. We are now ready to match with an amazing surrogate and proceed with a first transfer as soon as possible.

Once the baby is born, we both plan to stay home for the first year to take good care of our child and look after his or her needs and well-being. We will be very well surrounded and will have help from our families and friends. One thing is for sure, we will be two caring and devoted dads! Having never had children before, we are aware that we will have a lot to learn, but we are more ready than ever to take on this wonderful challenge.

We hope for a good relationship with our surrogate throughout the process and ideally have frequent communication in writing, on the phone and/or by video to ensure that both our surrogate and baby are doing well and that she has everything she needs (we’d love at least once a week, and are open to adjusting according to preferences). We are aware that it is an incredibly generous act to be pregnant in order to realize our beautiful project and that it is a process that can be filled with happiness, challenges and stress. That is why we see our role as providing support throughout the process, being present and listening, making you laugh and reassuring you in the most difficult moments. We would, of course, like to develop a beautiful friendship if the opportunity arises and keep in touch after the birth of our child, but this is not a requirement. We are open-minded, understanding and want to respect the preferences of the surrogate and her family.
