Letter to our Future Surrogate

When we dream of becoming parents, we picture raising our child in a community filled with support and respect. We both grew up in loving homes with plenty of family around who played major roles in helping us become who we are today. We hope as parents to do the same for our child. Our child will be close with their many cousins and live a fun filled life playing and celebrating surrounded by family and friends. Our story starts 17 years ago, when we met working our casual jobs at Kmart. We immediately hit it off and realised we had so much in common. We both love exploring new foods and travelling. In 2014 on a beautiful sunny day we got married. In the last 17 years we have explored internationally and domestically, started a fur family with 2 dogs and 2 cats (let’s not forget the fish) and most recently purchased a plot of land in our favourite small country town, where we cannot wait to bring a child home. Both Pete and I are very close with our families. We are Auntie and Uncle to 3 amazing nephews and 1 adorable niece. Both our parents are involved in so much of our lives as well as Dani’s sister (who is more like a best friend) and Peter’s brothers, who are always there for a fun time. Our child will be so loved by so many people.

We’re both lovers of comedy and watch sitcoms such as ‘how I met your mother’ and ‘Brooklyn nine nine’, and are always into a good travelling/cooking show or documentary. Movies we love are generally from the 90’s and 00’s but we usually end up spending the length of a movie trying to agree on what to watch. Our sense of humour is light hearted and we don’t take life too seriously. A typical Friday night for us is going out for dinner discovering new foods and restaurants or staying in with some cheeky treats, music playing in the background as we battle it our for champion in a board game of some kind. Pete works as a Principal Engineer in the software development space and Dani who started her career in Early Childhood Education and development, recently moved into a different space of education as a Swimming instructor. Overtime we realised country life was for us and so began the endless talks about one day moving to the country and building our dream home.

After 10 years of trying to conceive (both naturally and with the help of science) and too many miscarriages, we finally made the big decision to leap into the world of surrogacy. We have the most fantastic Canadian lawyer, Alex MacNab, supporting us through this journey and have begun speaking to our IVF specialist, Dr Librach, at Create. We currently have 3 PGT tested embryos ready to go.

When we imagine the relationship with our Surrogate, we imagine it being open and honest. We hope to be available and supportive throughout the process and if she would like; long after too. We are flexible with the degree of contact and will learn from her what most suits her needs and wishes, however, for us the more the better. When we have a child, we will be so excited to get together with our families for the holidays. It’s always a big event, filled with loads of delicious food and lots of fun. We have a Santa visit on Christmas day where we share our secret Santa gifts, with a trophy prize for the funniest gift, which always creates a lot of laughs. The thing that excites us most about having a child is finally being part of the moments and memories we see shared between siblings, cousins and their children every Christmas . As we love to travel and we love the country, another dream of ours is to see Australia and everything it has to offer. Our vision; an AWD, a caravan, our child and a whole lot of miles.

English is our primary language, however, we are very well versed in Aussie Slang, which we look forward to passing on to our child. When the child is born our plans are that Peter will take paternity leave from his work. Dani is employed on a casual/flexible basis and will be home with the baby the majority of the time. We both have parents who are healthy and active. They already help look after our nephews and niece, so they will be open to assisting whenever we need. After the birth of our child we would love for the surrogate to be a key person in our child’s life. We’d like them to share in the major moments, and hopefully see our child visiting Canada again one day.

When we think about surrogacy and the challenges it may pose, something we fear is that our embryos aren’t successful. We experienced several miscarriages and are very familiar with the effects both mentally and physically. We are concerned for the surrogates’ wellbeing if this were to occur. We would feel helpless being so far away, in Australia.

We would love to be blessed with one child, who will grow up surrounded by cousins close in age and be part of a great community in a country town. Will you help us start a family?

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for even considering giving us this gift. It means the world to us.

Warmest wishes,

Danielle and Peter
