Meet Giovanni & Matteo

It was winter in Milan, when we met for the first time in 2008. It was cold and people were ice skating in the park, where we had arranged our date. It was really close to love at first sight and after just one month we were already living together. But it took us many years to finally get married in Locarno. Only at the end of 2021 our country extended the right to marry to same-sex couples.
Dreaming a family
I, Giovanni, always wanted to build a family, and I knew, from the first moment, that Matteo would have been my partner in this journey. Initially we assumed that our only possibility to fulfill our dream was through adoption. We thought it would be right to offer love and affection to children that, for different reasons, felt excluded, as we sometimes did. Unfortunately, we found out that at the time it wasn’t even an option for us. So we started to look for other possibilities outside our countries and we found out about egg donation and surrogacy. We chose Canada, because it was important for us that our children could have been born in a country with whom we share values: tolerance, inclusion and democracy.
Long and sometimes hard journey
We sent our first application at the end of 2019. The pandemic messed up our plans and many donors had to step back. It has been really hard. Every time, after we overcame an obstacle, we believed nothing more could hurt us, but each time it has been as much painful as the first time. Nevertheless we remained positive. And, finally, during a summer night of 2023 our son Flavio came into the world. It was an hour to midnight, when we heard him crying for the first time. We were trembling, when they laid him down in our arms.
The love of sisters
It has been a long journey, but we met so many amazing people and made great friends. Since the beginning we were hoping to give our son a sibling. Our sisters have always been the pillars of our lives. Matteo has two bigger sisters, while Giovanni has a younger sister. We would like for Flavio to have a sister or a brother with whom to share the same relationship that we have.
We still have 18 embryos, but our gestational donor has reached her age limit. So, we hope to meet another special person to help us grow our family. We are convinced that the right person is out there and she will find us, because finding a gestational donor is like falling in love. We haven’t met her yet, but we know she’ll be as amazing as all the other people we already met!
