Meet Hannah & Toby

Toby and I are an Australian couple who are both high school teachers. We fell in love almost 6 years ago when we met at an end of school year celebration. Toby is the perfect mix of being incredibly intelligent, hard-working, silly and funny.

I knew very early on that he was the one I wanted to be the father of my children. Watching him with his nieces and the letters of adoration from his students leave no doubt in my mind that he would be the perfect dad.

We love our lives together spent camping, going to music gigs and cooking wonderful food. Our little Cavoodle Ramen makes our heart melt and we love walking him and all the love and kisses he gives us. Toby is a talented musician and an avid reader. I ride horses and love to dance. We both have wonderful families who care about us deeply, and luckily for us (at times), they live just down the road. They say it takes a village to raise a child and we know ours would be over the moon to welcome a new member of our family. In our case, it’s also going to take a village to make our baby.

We started our journey to parenthood with some unsuccessful attempts at IVF, and a heart-breaking diagnosis that has meant that we are unable to carry our children without significant risk. So, we are so grateful that through the surrogacy process, we may be able to fulfil our dreams of parenthood. Any surrogate who willingly carries our hopes and dreams is a shining light to us and we are so incredibly appreciative of their willingness to help complete strangers who want to start a family. We want our surrogate to feel valued and supported in whatever way that looks like for them.

And as I sit here typing this reflection on our journey as a couple, Toby has given some insight into who I am and the sorts of qualities that would make me great mother. He says I care. He says that the values I hold have shaped me into the compassionate woman that I am today, one who advocates for others. It’s this kindness and empathy that he says has led me down the pathway from an educator to a social worker.

We can’t wait for the next chapter of our lives together full of the joys and challenges of parenthood and we can’t wait to thank our future surrogate for the sleepless nights, dirty nappies and tantrums.
