Vera and I have been living in Toronto for the past 20+ years. We started trying to conceive naturally around 2004. Unfortunately, we were not successful and in 2007 started doing IFVs. We first tried with a clinic in Toronto and after multiple failed cycles moved to a clinic in New York (CHR). After 6 years, 8 IVF cycles and a couple of experimental medications and procedures, Vera got pregnant, and Sasha was born in February 2014! Sasha is absolutely the best thing that happened to us. (… and she knows about it and takes full advantage!) After Sasha was born, we debated whether to try for another child with the help of CHR. As we really wanted to give Sasha a sibling, we decided to give it a shot and started another series of IVFs in 2017. Vera left her full time work and did another 12 (!) IVF cycles with CHR in New York but alas there was no success. We had to stop when it became apparent that a combination of age and medical conditions would put Vera’s health in jeopardy if we continue. That was a tough decision, so at this point we think that using a surrogate is really our last hope. As both our families are in Russia, Vera and I are all alone in North America and we would really like for Sasha to have a sibling, so she is not alone.
