Meet Anne & Alejandro
Location: Australia
Watch our video:
Hi! We are Anne and Alejandro, a couple from Sydney, Australia 🐨🇦🇺
💘Our story begins with a match in Bumble back in 2019. Alejandro was in Sydney for work, we went out on a date to a cosy Italian restaurant in the city and, fast forward a few months, we were living together! We haven’t looked back since, and couldn’t be happier.
💍We got engaged in 2021. Right during COVID lockdown, Ale organised a surprise birthday cake for Anne with a koala image (a furry marsupial she adores and would love to tell you everything about!) and a “Would you marry me?” inscription (see photo!). Right then and there, we decided we wanted to continue our lives together and build a family.
❤️🩹Unfortunately, life always throws in a few challenges. Anne had to undergo a massive bowel surgery a few years back which means that, even though she can live a normal life, she cannot safely carry a pregnancy. Whilst at times it has been very painful to accept this reality, the possibility of having a baby through surrogacy has given us renewed hope for the future.
🇨🇦 We started learning about surrogacy and were amazed by all the selfless, empathetic women that, after having had their own little ones, decided to go and help others start their families. We also found it a bit daunting, to be honest. In Australia, unless you have a relative or close friend willing to help you, it is just not easy to find a surrogate. That is why we decided to explore finding a surrogate in Canada back in early 2022.
🫄We were lucky enough to find an incredible surrogate last year and we got pregnant but, unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be. The week 6 ultrasound showed no heartbeat. Even though we knew this was always a possibility, we felt devastated. Our surrogate was just fantastic at keeping us informed and comforted throughout, and we strived to do the same for her. Her fortitude and courage made our admiration for surrogates even greater. Sadly, we could not continue our journey with her due to medical issues.
🌷We enter 2023 with renewed hope that this will be the year we get to find a surrogate who wants to team up with us and make the baby dream happen. We are looking for someone who values open communication (we’ve learned that clear, open communication is perhaps the #1 success factor in the surrogate-IP relationship), who likes to have a laugh, and who is open to getting to know us so that hopefully we can create a bond that transcends the pregnancy.
🐨A bit about Anne:
Anne is an Aussie through and through, born and raised in Sydney. We are fortunate to live just around the corner from her loving parents Mark and Jill, her brother Daniel, and her gorgeous nephew and niece Noah and Zara.
Anne is definitely the creative one: she loves painting, drawing, baking and all sorts of craft, activities that she very much looks forward to sharing with her little one one day!
She also loves a good thriller, historical fiction show or documentary on Netflix, and making all sorts of things with Lego blocks.
When not busy with crafts or re-watching a favourite show (Law & Order SVU, anyone?) Anne works as a doctor, specialising in child and adolescent psychiatry.
🤓A bit about Alejandro:
Alejandro is originally from Patagonia, in Argentina, but has been living in Australia for nearly 14 years. Ale’s parents, his sister Romina, and his much loved teenage nephew and niece, all live in Buenos Aires, a city we visit regularly. The whole family is super excited about Ale becoming a dad, and Ale is looking forward to having a little English-Spanish speaking toddler so that they can have their own “secret language” at home. 🙂
Ale is definitely an outdoors fan; he recharges by being in nature, running, cycling and swimming, which are all things he dreams of doing with his children one day.
He is also a voracious reader, and is always happy to get book recommendations and share thoughts on whatever he’s reading at the time (currently it is a book called ‘Cribsheet’, which has great parenting tips). He also started learning piano a few months ago! (to Anne’s relief, mostly using headphones connected to the piano).
Ale is a former management consultant, and he now runs the Australian operations for an American software company.
